Toronto is undergoing a high-rise renaissance, with several landmark skyscrapers under construction or in planning by renowned global architects, including Frank Gehry, Studio Gang, Foster + Partners, and Hariri Pontarini Architects. The city, now tied with New York for the highest crane count in North America, is pushing forward a wave of supertall towers that are reshaping its skyline.

Among the standout developments is Forma, Frank Gehry’s tallest residential tower to date, featuring 84 storeys of rippled steel-clad façade designed to mimic dancing light. Gehry’s dual-tower project is rising in Toronto’s Entertainment District. Meanwhile, SkyTower by Hariri Pontarini Architects is on track to become Canada’s tallest skyscraper at 351.85 metres, currently under construction with 71 floors already completed.

Foster + Partners’ One Bloor West, once projected to be the country’s tallest, continues construction in Yorkville, while Studio Gang’s One Delisle is taking shape in Deer Park with its stacked, light-filtering design intended to enhance the pedestrian experience and offer private terraces.

Additional projects include Rafael Viñoly Architects’ 90 and 150 Eglinton Avenue, a trio of red-toned towers in Midtown and one of Viñoly’s final designs; and Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill’s proposed 645 and 648 Yonge towers, which integrate brick heritage façades to retain neighborhood character.

Mega-projects are also in the works. Safdie Architects’ Orca development proposes nine towers spanning Toronto’s rail corridor, while BIG’s King Toronto Residences, already under construction, merges futuristic glass brick architecture with historic preservation, creating a bold mixed-use complex slated for completion in 2026.

Together, these projects signal Toronto’s emergence as a global capital for innovative, vertically driven urban design.
