You don't have to rip out your old card reader system - Openpath now works with what you've got!

This is a big deal - you don't have to rip out your old Access Control System to use Openpath! You can add mobile credentials and cloud based controls to your old system now that Openpath is backwards compatible. So many people we talk to are frustrated with their difficult old systems, but don't want to force a change...instead they want to just upgrade what they have. There are a whole bunch of reasons why you don't want to disrupt your current users' experience - maybe you have users depending on their old keycards to still work with the new system, or maybe you don't want to upgrade every door for mobile, just a few. Well now Openpath can support any deployment model you have in mind.

We have added features to our software and hardware that allow our readers to read the credentials (cards, fobs, etc.) you have already handed out to your users, and allow our panels to connect to legacy panels and pass through those legacy credentials to your existing access control system for authentication. This means you can:

  1. Run an Openpath building with support for mobile credentials
  2. Manage it easily via your cloud console from any browser anywhere
  3. Support all the legacy credentials you've already issued
  4. Support any other tenant or landlord systems connected to that legacy system of yours
  5. Support all the integrations already in place with your parking, elevator, turnstiles or visitor management software.

While you can unlock doors with your phone even if you keep the old readers in place (over wifi/cellular), if you want to take advantage of our Touch frictionless access at each door, you will want to replace your old reader with our Smart Reader, but that's the extent of it. We run on the existing wiring and fit all form factors so just swap out the old reader with our Smart Reader to enable easier and more secure access while still supporting all the badges and fobs that your users already possess.

Since our launch in May of 2018, we've had a number of clients ask for this capability and we rolled it out at the beginning of 2019. The feedback has been great as customers and installers alike appreciate the flexibility Openpath offers to support all different kinds of customer use cases. If you want to learn more, come read our blog and if you're interested in running an Openpath building for better access to your workplace, contact us at sales@openpath.com.
