After more than a decade of planning and construction, the Journal Squared development in Jersey City has officially completed with the final of its three white-clad residential towers now finished. Designed by Handel Architects and HWKN, the project spans 2.3 million square feet and introduces 1,840 residential units, luxury amenities, retail space, and public plazas—all centered around the Journal Square PATH station.
The towers, which rise to 72, 59, and 53 storeys respectively, are united by an eight-storey podium that blends the structures into a pedestrian-friendly streetscape. The facades are characterized by gridded patterns, white metal cladding, and stepped-back massing, creating a bold yet refined architectural statement.
More than just a residential development, Journal Squared was envisioned as a catalyst for revitalizing Jersey City’s historic transit hub into a thriving urban neighborhood. “The transformation from a transit hub to a thriving urban community is what Journal Squared was always meant to achieve,” said HWKN’s founding principal Matthias Hollwich.
The project, developed by National Real Estate Advisors and The KRE Group, will eventually expand further with additional towers by Woods Bagot, reinforcing Journal Square’s emergence as a modern skyline anchor and community hub in New Jersey.
