JLL has announced a deepened collaboration with Microsoft to streamline hybrid workplace management by integrating JLL's Osis technology with Microsoft Places, an AI-powered connected workplace app. This partnership aims to reduce friction for commercial real estate operators managing flexible work environments and to accelerate digital transformation across office portfolios.

At the core of this initiative is the automation of indoor mapping. Using JLL Osis, facility managers can now convert AutoCAD floor plans and integrated workplace management system (IWMS) data into Microsoft’s indoor mapping data format. This integration eliminates the traditionally time-consuming and manual process of mapping office layouts, significantly cutting costs and improving accuracy in space planning.

Microsoft Places, first piloted by JLL in May 2024, supports hybrid work by enabling employees to see where teammates are located, book desks or rooms, and automatically release unused spaces. With Osis, spatial data is now updated in real time, ensuring that space management decisions reflect current usage and portfolio adjustments. This real-time capability empowers IT, real estate, and facilities teams to make faster, data-informed decisions about space utilization and adoption.

The system is further enhanced through integration with Microsoft Copilot, the AI assistant embedded across Microsoft 365. This means space managers can access workplace insights, usage trends, and recommended actions directly through familiar Microsoft platforms, effectively bridging workplace operations with AI-driven intelligence.

JLL executives highlighted the strategic value of this collaboration. Brennan McReynolds of Microsoft noted that the integration creates a seamless user experience by merging Microsoft’s AI solutions with JLL’s global real estate expertise. Reeves Davis of JLL emphasized that Osis ensures instant reflection of floor plan and portfolio data within Places, enhancing responsiveness for space planners.

A major challenge this integration addresses is compatibility. Many CRE operators rely on outdated systems that struggle to handle the data processing demands of modern AI tools. By supporting both legacy and modern BIM formats, the Osis-Microsoft Places integration provides a future-ready solution that bridges current operational gaps while preparing portfolios for evolving workplace needs.

Ultimately, the collaboration reflects growing industry momentum toward tech-enabled, employee-centric workplaces that are easier to manage and more responsive to hybrid work patterns.
