Recently caught up with my good friend Jeff Finn at RealNex. I have known Jeff for many years and always been really impressed by his ability to really understand where markets are headed and to build products and solutions to meet market needs.
The journey from one of the world's leading poker players to a successful career on Wall Street and now to VR/AR robots is one of the more interesting I have personally encountered. And that's the story of Bryan Colin, the founder/CEO of VirtualAPT.
Susie is a quintessential entrepreneur. Risk taker. Company builder. Visionary. Her background has always been in tech. She was part of the founding team at WhitePages.com, a company focused on building global digital identity data, serving 55M monthly consumers as well as Fortune 100 companies.
WOW! Real Capital Markets (RCM) is the real deal! It’s one of those companies I didn’t really know well, and I should have. They are doing big business with over 300,000 customers to date who have used the platform to generate over $1.8 trillion in transactions on line. Yes, that’s a TRILLION!!! And according to stats I saw, over 50% of all U.S. commercial assets sold, over $10 million, are brought to market using Real Capital Markets’ online marketplace annually.
Keith has been in the commercial real estate industry his whole life. He grew up in the industry through his family’s business and then started investing while in college and has been active ever since. He started his real estate journey in 2000 in the brokerage, property management and development sectors, as well as a being a tenant – he has basically touched all aspects in the CRE process! Not many people can say that they that kind of in depth knowledge and experience in the entire process which also give Keith a unique view on the industry.
Connected recently with Inayat, a very successful software developer, who has built a really smart deal tracking tool for investment sales and leasing professionals. Dealius.com is a one stop shop for brokers to monitor all of their deals in their pipeline and collaborate and communicate with their internal teams.
Courtesy of my friend Mark Kennedy, I had the pleasure of connecting with Elizabeth who has a really smart new technology called CoWorkr. The site grew out of her passion for sustainability and smart design. CoWorkr's core product uses bluetooth sensors to collect data on workplace activity and help companies assess the efficiency of their real-estate portfolio.
It's amazing how much innovation is taking place in the CRE tech sector. Not just in the U.S. but increasingly internationally. At CRE // Tech, while the bulk of our operation is in the States, we do keep our eye on and track prop tech around the world.
I can’t believe it took me this long to connect with one of the most important people in real estate tech…Steve Weikal! As head of Industry and Alumni Relations at the MIT Center for Real Estate, Steve and his team are on the leading edge of all things tech in the real estate sector.
I had an absolute blast meeting Stephanie and getting a demo of their really cool VR product. VR is one of the most active sectors in real estate tech and after writing so much about it on my own blog, it was fun to finally take a test drive!
I am pretty sure I met perhaps the smartest guy in CRE tech on my recent trip to SF. Rich Boyle is someone I obviously had heard of (his history atLoopnet with Founder Dennis DeAndre and COO/President Tom Byrne is the stuff legends are made from).
Had a great chat with Jon about his new site. Jon has the professional journey that I so admire and respect. Left a lucrative career in real estate law to follow his passion and build a really cool new startup called LeasePilot.co.
Bob reached out to introduce me to his site, FastOffice.com. What’s so cool about his site is that it’s part of what I think is one of the fastest growing and hottest sectors of the CRE tech space…space visualization.
What a friggen great dude! What a nice guy! Holy shit they know what they are doing and are going to crush it! Those were my takeaways from meeting Jeff of Camber Creek a really active VC in the CRE tech space.
In the commercial real estate tech world, Jim Young is THE MAN! I don’t know of anyone else that has been in CRE tech for as long as Jim, nor do I know anyone who has had as much influence in the sector as well.
