AI, Electrification Trends Set to Spike U.S. Electricity Demand

A new report from consulting firm ICF forecasts a sharp rise in U.S. electricity demand due to artificial intelligence growth, building electrification, and electric vehicle adoption. By 2045, demand is expected to increase by 13%, with a potential 19% rise in electricity costs by 2028. The mid-Atlantic region, driven by data centers, could see a 68% demand increase by 2050. Utilities face significant challenges in meeting demand, achieving net-zero goals, and integrating renewable energy.
