Had a great conversion with Kurt, super friendly guy who was a Consultant atBain and Co. and a Senior Associate at Cue Ball Capital (another VC) before joining Moderne Ventures. His background includes time spent at Greenfield Partners, a Chicago-based real estate private equity shop. The dude has serious investment and real estate experience. Oh, and an MBA from Harvard. Not too shabby!
Moderne Ventures was founded by Constance Freedman who is one of the leading real estate tech investors in the industry having invested in over 40 startups. She used to be the head of Strategic Investments at the National Association of Realtors where she launched and managed their investment arm, Second Century Ventures and founded its accelerator Reach.
Moderne Ventures recently launched their new fund and Kurt and I spoke about the types of investments they are looking for and how excited he is about the prospects for the real estate sector overall. Having someone like Kurt attracted to the real estate VC space is a great sign for the sector overall. He’s got the experience, platform and resources to really make an impact. If I were a startup looking to raise money, I would absolutely put Kurt and Moderne high on my target list.
