In 2023, the cleantech venture investing landscape faced a rollercoaster ride, marked by tightened spending, a focus on revenue, and unexpected corporate implosions. The year began with concerns about interest rates, inflation, and supply-chain challenges. The collapse of prolific venture lender Silicon Valley Bank and other financial institutions created ripples across the startup landscape. However, the second half of the year saw a shift, with more high-quality opportunities emerging. Despite challenges, the cleantech financing landscape ended on a positive note in December, with Congruent Ventures raising a $275 million fund dedicated to seed-stage climate investing. This signals growing interest from larger institutions in early-stage climate solutions.
