The real estate and technology industries are coming together, giving rise to a new generation of professionals known as women in proptech.

Investment giant BlackRock announced today it has raised over $800 million for the BlackRock Impact Opportunities Fund, which invests in businesses and projects owned, led by, or serving people of color, with a focus on Black, Latinx and Native American communities in the U.S. BlackRock stated that it targeting $1 billion for the fund.

Women have spent decades working to move up the ranks of the commercial real estate financial services sector, but they continue to encounter significant barriers.  

The Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the nation’s largest organization exclusively representing the Black College Community, has formed a partnership with CBRE Group Inc. to help students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities prepare for careers in commercial real estate.
